🚢 Cut the Noise: Who
Deserves a Role in Your Life’s Movie?
🎬 Introduction
In shipping, we are always casting people into
roles—charterers, shipowners, masters, agents, surveyors, port officials, and
so many more. But what about our personal life? Do we carefully choose who gets
the “lead role” in our journey, or do we allow anyone to walk in and disturb
the script?
I recently read a line in Marathi that hit me deeply:
“लोकांना बदलता येत नसेल तर त्या लोकांनाच बदला.”
(If you cannot change people, then change those people in your life.)
Just like in operations, where we keep only reliable agents,
trusted suppliers, and proven practices, the same principle applies to life.
You are the director of your own movie—so why give screen time to
characters who bring only stress, chaos, and negativity?
1. 🎯 You Are the Director of
Your Life’s Movie
Think about it. In a film, the director decides who plays
the hero, who’s a side actor, and who doesn’t fit the story at all. Life works
the same way. If a person drains your energy, repeatedly ignores your feelings,
or keeps disturbing your peace, why keep them in the lead role?
In my own life, I silently observe people’s behavior. Sweet
words don’t fool me—actions speak louder. If someone’s pattern shows they won’t
change, I don’t waste my energy arguing, forcing, or explaining myself
endlessly. I simply reduce their role, and in some cases, remove them
completely from my “life movie.”
👉 Lesson for shipping
professionals: Just like we blacklist unreliable vendors or avoid repeat
mistakes with charterers, you must also “blacklist” negativity in life. Protect
your mental peace first—because only a stable captain can guide the ship
safely.

2. ⚓ Pull Back Your Energy, Invest
in Growth
When a person refuses to change despite your clarity and
honesty, continuing to give them your time and energy is like wasting bunkers
on an idle voyage.
Instead, I quietly pull back. I stop feeding energy to such
relationships. That time, that emotional bandwidth, that mental space—I
redirect it into growth, learning, and building meaningful bonds.
👉 Shipping parallel: A
vessel in dry dock doesn’t waste time fixing what is beyond repair. The team
prioritizes what will extend the vessel’s life, improve efficiency, and
ensure safe future voyages. Similarly, in your personal journey, focus on
people and habits that strengthen you, not weaken you.

3. 🌊 Protect Your Mental
Peace Like a Ship in Heavy Weather
Storms will always come—difficult colleagues, demanding
clients, toxic acquaintances. But remember: You don’t need to “win over” every
storm. Sometimes, the smartest decision is to change course, reduce exposure,
and protect the ship.
In life, protecting your peace is not selfish—it is
strategic. Just as a master plans a voyage with safety as priority, you too
must safeguard your emotional balance before anything else.
👉 A vessel without
stability is unsafe at sea. A person without peace is unsafe in life. Choose
wisely.

⚓ Closing Thoughts
Every day, ask yourself:
📝
Who am I giving the lead role in my movie today?
📝
Are they adding value, or draining my energy?
📝
If not, do I have the courage to reduce or remove their role?
Remember: Your time, your energy, your peace—they are
your most precious cargos. Handle them with the same care you give to your
vessel’s cargo.
