👑 A King, Three Thieves…
and a Powerful Lesson!
Let me tell you a story.
In an ancient kingdom, three thieves were caught stealing.
The king sentenced all of them to death. But he was also known for his
kindness. So, he gave them one last chance — he would forgive one
person, but only if they could explain why they deserved to live.
Each thief was given just a few minutes to speak.
What happened next teaches us something powerful — not just for life, but for
sales, leadership, and communication.
1️⃣ 🧠
ETHOS – Build Trust First
🧍♂️ The first thief
stood up and said:
“Oh King, I am a good man. I know you are kind. Please
forgive me.”
He tried to praise the king and talk about his own
honesty. But that’s all.
✅ He used Ethos — trying
to build trust.
❌
But there were no feelings, and no logic.
He was not forgiven.
2️⃣ 💓
PATHOS – Speak to the Heart
👨👧👧 The
second thief said:
“My King, I have three young daughters. If I die, they’ll be
orphans. Please save me!”
This touched the king’s heart. It made him emotional.
✅ He used Pathos
(emotions) + Ethos (father role)
❌
But again, no logic, no clear solution.
Still not enough to be saved.
3️⃣ 🧠💓📊
The Full Power: ETHOS + PATHOS + LOGOS
💔 The third thief calmly
said:
“King, I stole only to buy medicine for my dying wife. She
once worked hard to cook for your birthday celebration. Since then, she has
been very ill.
If you spare my life, you’ll save two lives — hers and mine. I promise to serve
you forever.”
This changed everything.
✅ Ethos: He was a caring
husband and reminded the king of her service.
✅
Pathos: He created deep sympathy — a dying wife, suffering after helping
the king.
✅
Logos: He gave logic: “Save two lives” and offered lifetime loyalty.
He was the one the king forgave.
🔄 The Real Lesson: You
Can Use This Same Formula!
Whether you're selling a product, managing a shipping
crisis, or just convincing a friend — this formula works.
In Sales or Business:
💼 You’re selling
software?
- Ethos:
“We’ve served 100+ clients in this industry for 15+ years.”
- Pathos:
“I understand how frustrating your manual work is.”
- Logos:
“This will save you 70% time and ₹2 lakhs/year — here are the reports.”
In Daily Life:
Planning a trip with friends?
- Ethos:
“Trust me, I’ve done all the planning.”
- Pathos:
“We all need a break — think of the fun!”
- Logos:
“It fits our budget and is safe and easy to reach.”
When you use only logic, people feel cold.
When you use only emotions, people may not believe you.
When you use only your position, people feel pushed.
👉 But when you mix all
three — Trust (Ethos), Emotion (Pathos), and Logic (Logos) — people
listen, agree, and connect.
